We are now accepting Driver - Contestant applications for the 2026 School Bus Diver International Safety Competition in Austin. Driver - Contestants who have won a local Safety Competition after July 1, 2025, or are applying as an NSTA Inclusion Drivers, are eligible to compete at the 2026 NSTA Safety Competition. A 2026 Safety Competition Outline is also provided for your reference by clicking that Red Button below. We are also pleased to announce that there is five (5) $2,500.00 Driver – Contestant Scholarships available through the generosity of Downtime Subrogation and another four (4) $2,500.00 Driver-Contestant Scholarships available through the generosity of IC Bus. Contestants are encouraged to apply for both scholarships, which will be awarded to those drivers who are eligible to compete in 2026.

51st NSTA SCHOOL BUS DRIVER INTERNATIONAL SAFETY COMPETITION RECAP (2025)

The 51st Edition of the School Bus Driver International Safety Competition (SBDISC) was held on June 28-29, 2025 in Austin (TX), and NSTA is proud to announce that Brian Rickmann of the Beaverton School District (OR) was crowned the Bill Loshbough Grand Champion for 2025. NSTA is also pleased to announce the following winners in the Type A, C, and D categories, who were acknowledged on Sunday evening, June 29, 2025, at the NSTA Safety Competition Driver’s Awards Banquet at the Austin Marriott Downtown. We congratulate all of our drivers for their dedication and professionalism.

Small Bus (Type A):

First Place: Claudia Christen – Prairie Bus Lines – Alberta, Canada
Second Place: Kathleen Graham - Montgomery County Public Schools - Virginia
Third Place: Erika Gaines -Montgomery County Schools - Tennessee

Conventional Bus (Type C):

First Place: Betty Nelson - Dean Transportation - Michigan
Second Place: Philip Purvis, North East ISD - Texas
Third Place: Jered Winnestaffer - Community Bus Services - Groveport-Madison Schools - Ohio

Transit Bus (Type D):
