52nd NSTA SCHOOL BUS DRIVER INTERNATIONAL SAFETY COMPETITION RECAP (2026)

The 52nd Edition of the School Bus Driver International Safety Competition (SBDISC) was held on June 27-28, 2026 in Austin (TX), and NSTA is proud to announce that Brian Rickmann of the Beaverton School District, Oregon, was crowned the Bill Loshbough Grand Champion for 2026. NSTA is also pleased to announce the following winners in the Type A, C, and D categories, who were acknowledged on Sunday evening, June 28, 2026, at the NSTA Safety Competition Driver’s Awards Banquet at the Austin Marriott Downtown. We congratulate all of our drivers for their dedication and professionalism.

Small Bus (Type A):

Second Place: Betsy Grove - Dickson County Board of Education -Tennessee
Third Place: Kimberly Doyle -Southland Transportation LTD - Calgary, Canada

Conventional Bus (Type C):

First Place: Betty Nelson - Dean Transportation - Michigan
Second Place: DanHill Marantal- Plano ISD - Texas
Third Place: Stephanie Johns - Auburn Washburn USD 437- Kansas

Transit Bus (Type D):

First Place: Brian Rickmann - Beaverton School District - Oregon
Second Place: James Hethcock - Grapevine Colleyville ISD - Texas
Third Place: Kevin Beck - Salem-Keizer Public School District - Oregon
